Our land: "le Pays d'Auray"
Auray is a bustling little town with a lively and colourful market twice a week, the most important taking place every Monday. The old harbour of Saint Goustan should not be missed, with its chapels and timbered houses.
Locmariaquer, on the coast , lies at the entrance to the Morbihan Gulf and is another major megalithic site. The Quiberon Peninsula and the Côte Sauvage (Wild Coast) are a foretaste of the islands just off the coast: Belle Ile, Houat and Hoedic.
There is plenty to discover inland too. Camors, just north of Auray, boasts vast and varied woodland, while Sainte Anne d'Auray is a major religious centre with an imposing basilica to which flock hosts of pilgrims each year. It is a land steeped in history with the mysterious standing stones in Carnac, and a place where the sea is omnipresent: beaches of fine sand, either sheltered within Quiberon Bay, or more open on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean; fishing harbours or yachting centres which tempt the visitor to explore the nearby islands.
